Adding a Bike Rack to Your RV
If you have an SUV as a tow vehicle or tow a 5th wheel, you're probably looking for an easy way to haul your bikes. And you're in luck. There are many options for transporting bikes on 5th wheels, travel trailers, and tent trailers. There is the over-the-spare-tire rack, the ladder-mount, the traditional bumper/receiver mount, and the non-traditional a-frame tongue mount. All are good in their own right as long as you understand their limitations.

My parents gave me a very old coffee table that was sitting in their basement for 30 years. It is a beautiful piece of furniture so I accepted that gift.

How To Tile A Coffee Table
The coffee table had a glass top on it. I went to remove the glass top to clean it and it shattered. I was going to go have it replaced and then I thought why not do something different with it.
How To Tile A Coffee Table
I decided to tile it. The choices for tiling a table are many. You can tile with mosaic, broken tile, or any other ways you can think of.
My decision was to use marble. I purchased 12 8in. size marble tiles in an orange color. I then purchased 28 4in. marble tiles in two colors, orange and green.
I selected the adhesive that works for both wood and marble. The back of the adhesive will give you that information. It is important to use the correct adhesive for both wood and the tile you are using.
After cleaning the table, spread the adhesive out and place the larger tiles first. The larger tiles I put in the middle of the table. Then, place each smaller tile around the larger tiles. Let the adhesive set for about 30 minutes.
After your adhesive is set, you can now grout your table. If you do not want your wood ruined, make sure you tape any exposed wood before you start to grout.
Grout your table using the grout color you prefer. I used Dorian Gray as I feel it matches the two colors of tile I chose.
Sponge off your excess grout and let harden for about 30 minutes. A haze will cover your tile top so after your grout has hardened, take a clean cloth and wipe the grout haze off your tile. Let the grout completely harden for 24 hours. After your grout has hardened, seal your tile. I used a high gloss sealer but there are many different sealers you can choose from.
Let your seal dry for about 24 hours and you now have a beautiful, durable, easy to clean coffee table.

While it's possible to get some accessories from the Chevy, GMC, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Mazda, Nissan or Toyota dealer where you bought your truck, you will find a much bigger selection of items online. You may also get better bargains shopping this way. Some popular makers of pickup truck accessories include Lund, Westin, Dee Zee, Outland, Auto Ventshade, Warn, Saddleman, Thule, PIAA, Vector, Wolo, Deflecta Shield, Pilot, Hoppy, Grizzly and Protecta.

Pickup Truck Accessories
There are many types of exterior pickup truck accessories to enhance the appearance of the outside of your truck. They include air dams, bras and masks, bug shields, bumpers, fender flares, graphics and emblems, grille guards, hood ornaments, hoods and scoops, mirrors, racks and cargo accessories, roll pans, running boards, splash guards, tool boxes, truck steps, tire covers, visors, wings and spoilers and wiper cowls. Select items that will complement your truck's basic lines and that will work well together instead of looking cluttered.
Interior accessories
Installing interior accessories is all about improving the comfort level when riding in your truck. Some examples are 12 volt accessories, cargo trays and liners, consoles and racks, dash covers and trim, door accessories, floor mats, horns, instrument panel covers, pet accessories, seat covers, seats and steering wheel covers.
How about adding some electronics to enhance your ride? Choices include CBs and scanners, cruise controls, GMRS radio, GPS and navigation systems, power inverters, radar and laser detectors, remote starters, security systems and antennas. You might also want to upgrade the standard radio that came with your truck to a stereo CD or satellite radio system.
Accessories cushion the load and improve the ride
Trucks are all about hauling things, so why not do it in style? Pickup truck accessories for your truck bed include cargo control, bed mats, bed liners, bed protection, bed rails, tailgate accessories and tonneau covers. You might also want towing accessories like hitch balls, hitch mounts, hitch covers, hitch steps, hitch wiring, hitches, tow hooks and straps, towing mirrors, winch accessories, winches and winch mounting systems.
By improving your pickup's suspension and brakes you make the ride both smoother and safer. To do this, you might need anti-sway bars, bars and arms, bushings and shackles, hubs, lift kits, lowering kits, shocks and struts, skit plates and trusses and springs. Adding more lighting not only improves the truck's appearance, it also improves safety. Some typical lighting pickup truck accessories are accent lighting, auxiliary lighting, back-up lights, bulbs and lamps, driving and fog lights, headlights, interior lights, light bars, light covers, light guards, marker lights, neon lighting, spotlights, taillights, tow lighting and wiring, turn signal lights and warning lights.
Electrical and exhaust systems are essential
If your pickup won't start, it doesn't matter how good it looks. If you've got this problem or fear it might happen, try buying alternator accessories, battery accessories, battery chargers, chassis wiring or jump start systems. If the problem is on the exhaust end, you might need catalytic converters, exhaust systems, exhaust tips and extensions, headers or mufflers.
To do all this work yourself, you'll need some tools and equipment. Useful items include tire pressure gauges, car care products, computer software, creepers and seats, diagnostic equipment, engine hoists and stands, garage and parking accessories, jacks, stands, ramps, paint, sanding materials and abrasives.
And once your truck is tricked out to your heart's desire, get out your camera. You're going to want to showoff your new, improved truck to all of your friends.

The same is true of Thule and Yakima. Overall, Thule racks have a reputation for quality and durability. Similarly, Yakima racks are renowned for their strength. Though at first glance they may seem identical, each manufacturer offers a few unique differences within their products that may make a huge difference to you depending on how you plan on using your rack. Here are the most important things to consider when purchasing one.
Thule
Thule Vs Yakima - Which Roof Rack Company Has the Best Reputation?
A roof rack provides convenience and safety, allowing you to safely and easily transport your recreational gear to and from your destination while leaving extra leg room in the cab. High-quality roof racks, the perfect perches for mounting a Thule roof box or Yakima cargo carrier, are typically forged from steel tubing and capable of holding up to 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight. And, they're custom designed to work with your particular roof, so there's no drilling, no welding and no hair pulling required. Roof racks and their companion cargo carriers come complete with all the necessary hardware for a quick and easy installation. Plus, they're finished in a tough powder coating that resists corrosion, providing a long life of reliable wear.
Thule Vs Yakima - Which Roof Rack Company Has the Best Reputation?
Many rooftop carriers, like the Thule roof box, feature a snap-on mounting system that often works with your factory-installed roof rack, providing quick installation and simple removal for convenient storage between trips. Constructed from all-weather ABS, rooftop carriers come in a dizzying array of sizes and provide serious protection against sticky-fingered thieves. Unlike a standard roof rack, rooftop carriers allow you to lock your belongings when you stop to stretch your legs or head out on the trail, and a lock puts a serious cram on a crook's plans to yank your gear.
Here's where you'll find one difference between the two manufacturers. Aside from their sturdy construction, Yakima cargo carriers - like the Yakima SkyBox cargo carrier - provide an additional level of convenience. Featuring spring-loaded hinges, you can open the SkyBox from either side with just one hand. Plus, the cast-metal super latch automatically ensures a snug seal with a built-in lock that helps stop swindlers dead in their swindling tracks.
Unlike a rear-mounted rack, which often connects to your trailer hitch, roof racks (like the Thule bike rack, Yakima bike rack, Thule ski rack or Yakima ski rack) store bikes, boards, skis and all of your other gear up and out of the way without blocking your vision or obstructing access to the rear of your vehicle.

Many stories abound on whether or not it is even safe to install a bike rack on a towable RV. Some say the bumper-mounted racks will bounce too much, break the welds on the bumper, and send the bikes flying in to traffic behind you. Others will simply say that they have never had any problems for years.
Thule
Adding a Bike Rack to Your RV
If you're going to use the bumper-mounted rack, the trick is to ensure that the square tube bumper is of sufficient thickness and is welded correctly to the frame of the RV. Many bumpers are very thin and are poorly welded. This is fine for its intended purpose of sewer hose storage but not necessarily for a bike rack. A rack with more than two bikes on it can create a lot of twisting leverage on the bumper, fatiguing the welds over time, eventually resulting in weld failure. If in doubt, have a professional welder beef up the welds and reinforce the bumper. This holds true with the "over-the-spare-tire" bike rack as well since the bumper is probably not designed to handle more than the spare tire weight.
Adding a Bike Rack to Your RV
The ladder mount is an easy way to transport a few lightweight bikes. Most ladders are rated for upwards of 250 pounds, which can accommodate most humans and pretty much any two bikes, provided they are secured where they cannot bounce. Like the bumper/receiver mount rack, it's the bouncing that can cause ladder detachment and/or structure failure.
For travel trailers, a really great way to mount a bike rack is on the tongue. There are purpose-built racks that mount to each side of the a-frame and place the bike carrier above the propane tanks. They are quite solid and take the worry out of transporting your bikes since you can easily keep an eye on them from the rear view mirror. The only downside is that the bikes are a little harder to secure on the rack since the rack sits up fairly high. You might need a hand hefting them up there.
Tent trailers provide an even more secure way to transport bikes. Rack mounts made for cars can be bolted to the roof of the tent trailer and up to four bikes can be hauled this way. Since the racks are built for total mounting security, this is the ultimate way for tent trailer owners to carry their bikes.
Tip: Transporting your bikes on your RV can subject them to road grime and bug splats. Get yourself some bike covers. There are general purpose covers and custom fit types and they will do wonders for keeping the gunk off your bikes.
